Job Purpose:
Manage and control legal risk for the bank. Develop an effective legal function that supports Bank strategic growth by providing practical legal advice, managing legal risks, and implementing risk-reduction procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and manage legal risks; develop strategic legal risk initiatives.
- Build close working relationships with business heads and managers.
- Oversee litigation, evaluate strategies, and provide updates to management.
- Provide daily legal guidance to Branch Banking and Collections teams.
- Manage cases, including consumer cases, civil disputes, and recovery matters.
- Handle fraud matters; file complaints and FIRs as needed.
- Ensure policies align with Legal Risk Standards and best practices.
- Monitor legal risks in projects, systems, and products for the Indian market.
- Control external legal resources and costs; liaise with external advisors.
- Stay current on laws and practices in India and train business units on legal risks.
- Build relationships with business areas and monitor legal transaction effectiveness.
- Experience in commercial, consumer, and branch banking.
Technical Competencies:
- Extensive knowledge of banking and commercial law
- Ability to quickly learn new legal areas
- Strong understanding of Indian laws and regulations
